    Super Bowl LII

Now that the Super Bowl matchup has been set, it’s time to dig into the odds. The New England Patriots opened as favourites, but the Philadelphia Eagles are embracing their role as underdogs. Those underdogs are making a killing so far in this season’s NFL playoffs with an 8-1-1 record against the spread.

The New England Patriots opened as 6.5-point favourites last Sunday, hours after they punched their Super Bowl ticket. The opening total was set at 48.5. The immediate action came in on the underdog Philadelphia Eagles dropped the point spread from Pats -6.5 to -5.5. About 64 percent of total betting action was backing the Eagles while 55 percent of bets were on over 48.5.

From there it was steady support on the Eagles, which forced the point spread down to Patriots -5, while the total has been bouncing between 48 and 48.5 points. Right now we expect this point spread to hold for a while unless more information comes out on Rob Gronkowski’s status after he suffered a concussion in the AFC Conference Championship.

There are some early props on the board including odds on the game’s coin toss and national anthem (over/under 120 seconds). Tom Brady is set as the Super Bowl MVP favourite at -140, followed by Nick Foles at +340, Rob Gronkowski +1500, and Dion Lewis +1900.

    NBA

As the Toronto Raptors get more attention for their strong season, it’s becoming increasingly difficult for their point spread supporters to make a buck. Toronto is just 1.5 games back of the Atlantic Division-leading Boston Celtics. However, the Raptors head into Thursday’s date with Atlanta having dropped four straight against the number and six of their last eight ATS overall. The Dinos play eight of their last 12 games before the All-Star Game at home.

    NHL

The NHL trade deadline is still a month away, but it’s starting to become clearer which teams will be buyers and which will be sellers. The Winnipeg Jets could look for another piece or two that would cement them as legitimate Stanley Cup contenders and the Toronto Maple Leafs might try to land a player to help them during the playoff push. Other than that, the rest of the Canadian teams should be sellers, so bettors should be wary of supporting them until the dust settles.
