As
the regular season
moves past the halfway point, we’re beginning to see betting trends
level off.
While underdogs were the story for most of the first half, they’ve now
only
covered the spread in 53 percent of all games – still a decent clip for
pup
bettors, but not the kind of dominance we saw earlier in the year. When
it
comes to totals, scores have gone over posted over/unders 51 percent of
the
time, so basically even there too.
Early
Week 9 bettors
are siding with road favourites in some of the biggest games on the
schedule. The
Buffalo Bills are turning a lot of heads this season at 5-2 straight up
and
5-1-1 against the spread and they head into Week 9’s Thursday Night
Football
matchup as 3-point road favourites against the Jets. About 82 percent
of
bettors are backing the Bills.
Oddsmakers
are seeing
the same sort of thing with the Sunday Night Football game and the
Monday Night
Football contest. The Oakland Raiders are seeing about 84 percent of
bets as
3-point favourites in Miami on Sunday night and the Detroit Lions are
pulling
in 87 percent of wagers as 2.5-point favourites in Green Bay on Monday.
NFL Week 9 Lines to Watch
The
Dallas Cowboys
opened as 1-point favourites at home to the Kansas City Chiefs, but
following
the news reporting that running back Ezekiel Elliott will likely be
suspended
for six games, the Cowboys are now 1-point underdogs. More than 80
percent of
bets are backing the Chiefs to cover.
The
Houston Texans are
the biggest favourite on the Week 9 board. They have moved from
11-point
favourites at home to Indianapolis to -13.
Bettors
are in on the
Jacksonville Jaguars. They opened at -2 at home to the Cincinnati
Bengals
before being bet up to -4.5
NHL
The
Edmonton Oilers
were the hottest bet going on the NHL futures board before the season
began.
They steadily climbed up the odds board until they were alongside the
Pittsburgh Penguins as Stanley Cup favourites when the regular season
began.
Well, what a difference a few weeks makes.
The
Oilers have lost
seven of their last nine outright and have dropped to seventh place in
the
Pacific Division. With the early slump, the Oilers have slipped to
+1700 to win
the Stanley Cup. The Leafs have been joined by the surging Tampa Bay
Lightning
at the top of the odds board at +700, with Pittsburgh just off the pace
at
+900.
